Biography of Samuel Darío Maldonado joins the catalog of Cinesa Venezuela

“Samuel Darío Maldonado, a river to be explored” is the title of this piece that gathers the life and work of the doctor from Tachira, who also ventured into letters, anthropology, public service and the country’s health. The feature film is directed by Óscar Lucien and Andrés Crema

This phrase is part of what exposes Samuel Darío Maldonado, a river to explore, the most recent documentary feature film Cinesa Audiovisual Productions.

The film, directed by filmmakers Óscar Lucien (Carlos Cruz-Diez. life in color) and Andres Cream (Carlos Rangel, this is your life, this is your freedom), summarizes the life and work of the tachirense doctor (Ureña, 1870 – Caracas, 1925) dedicated to letters, anthropology and the health of the country during the Juan Vicente Gómez regime (1908 – 1935).

Maldonado’s travels, his fight against yellow fever and other endemo-epidemic diseases, his passage through Positivism and through poetry and literature – his novel Our land (1921) is considered a pioneer in Venezuelan literature of the jungle– are exposed in this 51-minute material.

Historians Inés Quintero (The baker’s son), Francisco Javier Perez (The sage in ruins. Scriptural biography of Félix E. Bigotte) and Horacio Biord (jungle notebook), among others; They are part of this production, they are the ones who, together with an exhaustive compilation of photographic and audiovisual archives, which includes unpublished snapshots; reconstruct and narrate the virtuosity of this exemplary Venezuelan.

The credits are completed by Yoselin Fagundez in the general production; Gustavo Poleo in Photography; Álvaro Cordero in the music and Saraí Golcheidt and Víctor Hugo Bracamonte in the locution.

Samuel Darío Maldonado, a river to explore had the support of Maldonado Economic Group (GEM) and Miami Biennale/META Miami; and will be for sale, in DVD format, soon in the main bookstores in Venezuela.
