Binational agenda

2nd Uruguay-Brazil meeting was held in Melo to address the repatriation of remains

This Second Meeting of the Uruguay-Brazil Binational Agenda, which had little attendance from national authorities, met in the Multipurpose Room of the Departmental Board of Cerro Largo.

Taking into account that the border functions as an integrated community, it is considered necessary to find a definitive solution to the significant delays that exist when repatriating remains.

Regulatory and health differences affect families in the most painful moments, therefore it becomes a priority issue due to its human and social impact.

“This meeting is held at the initiative of the Municipality of Capao do Leao, I am even accompanied by Renatinho Póvoa who is the President of the Special Commission where they suggested this concern through the Agenda that was passed to the Board” Rafael Leite reported.

“We believe it is very important because they intend to bring Uruguayan legislation closer to Brazilian legislation so that work can be done from below, from the Ediles and Councilors to the National or Federal State Deputies that they have.” he advanced. “Without that basic part, from below, the border cannot be built or changed because that is where the experience is and where it is closest to see the needs we have on the border” he told EL PROFESIONAL Diario.

“In this journey we have taken with the Agenda, we are learning every day, we see the gaps that remain and where we can move forward,” he said.

Leite recognized that from Brazil there is greater interest in unifying criteria than from the Uruguayan side itself. “People don’t understand, they don’t get involved, and it’s always easier to criticize than to build or do something, it’s always been like that. People don’t commit. We are honorary members of the Agenda and we do it out of conviction” he remarked.

REPATRIATION OF THE DECEASED

He considered the topic that was addressed in this meeting held in the city of Melo to be fundamental due to the social, human and economic connotations it has. “This situation of deceased people is a very big obstacle. You cannot talk in a tourist exchange when the minimum thought can happen. We have the problem in that and from there we continue with other such important issues that are not seen. We discover them because we are directly involved. Commercially a lot is lost” lament.

“This is the second meeting of this year. We thank the Departmental Board that opened its doors and those who were present so that we could begin to build and local legislation was integrated with Brazil” Rafael Leite stressed.

BRAZILIAN VIEWERS IN MEETING

Renato Póvoa highlighted the importance of integration between Uruguay and Brazil. “We have many resources to achieve this, but we need the legislation to be adapted to have a vision of the future. Nobody does anything alone, we have to build collectively, mainly in border areas where we have several things in common between Brazil and Uruguay, brother countries” commented to EL PROFESIONAL Diario.

The Vereador of the Municipality of Capao do Leao worked on this issue in his capacity as Manager in other borders. “We intend to achieve integration so that it reaches the people, some help others and thus grow together. Brazil needs a lot from here and here they need a lot from Brazil. Borders are increasingly being unified so that people develop a project that benefits the entire population” he remarked.

“What we want to do now in terms of integration is through the Merín Lagoon, the San Gonzalo Canal. We no longer have a way to escape: the trucks are going to stop, we are going to have railways and waterways. The work is already being done, but we have to develop the regulations and for that the executive and the legislative have to be integrated to agree on the rules so that the two countries work together to improve both in Brazil and in Uruguay.” Renato Póvoa finished saying.
