The bill that exempt from Sales Tax (VAT) preparatory activities for COP16 was submitted to the House of Representatives on Monday.

The legislative initiative, which will have an urgent message, It was presented by the Minister of Environment, Susana Muhamadwith the support and signature of the Foreign Minister, Luis Gilberto Murillo, the Minister of Finance, Ricardo Bonilla, and the backing of the Historic Pact bench.
According to the head of the Environment portfolio, this proposal It would save the COP16 budget and the country more than 20 billion pesosapproximately. This taking into account that the different commitments of the event will be financed with resources from the Nation.
“The project would generate VAT exemption for investments made in COP16 and preparatory matters arising from the National Government, the Governorate of Valle and the Mayor’s Office of Cali. It also recognizes the economic value of holding COP16 in Cali: a hotel occupancy rate during the COP of 99%, a job creation process of 3,500 additional jobs and 1,500 indirect jobs.” Muhamad pointed out.
It is worth remembering that The estimated budget for this event is 207 billion pesos.This amount includes contributions made by the Government, the Governorate of Valle and the Mayor’s Office of Cali.

What the project says
The initiative establishes that the sale and import of movable tangible goods (objects that can be transported such as electronic equipment, tools, etc.), the provision of services in the national territory or from abroad, among others, that are carried out with resources from the National Budget, from the Mayor’s Office of Cali or the Governorate of Valle del Cauca, would not have to pay VAT.
If the bill is approved, the benefits derived from it will apply from the day the law is enacted until one month after the date on which COP16 ends.
