US President Joe Biden nominated Panamanian journalist Luis Botello as a candidate for a member of the International Broadcasting Advisory Council of the United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM).
“I am extremely honored” by this nomination, Botello reacted on his Twitter account. “This is a crucial moment to support freedom and democracy,” added the Panamanian, who currently serves as Assistant Vice President for Global Impact and Strategy at the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ).
Botello is a journalist with more than 30 years of experience building and promoting “a free and independent press” around the world, highlighted a White House statement, where other nominations made by Biden were announced.
His resume highlights that the Panamanian journalist launched the International Network of Journalists (IJNet) and expanded the ICFJ’s presence in Latin America. Botello is also an analyst for international media such as CNN en Español, NTN24 and Voice of America.
As reported on its website, the USAGM agency’s mission is to “inform, engage and connect” people around the world in support of freedom and democracy.
