Biden calls Putin a 'Russian dictator' and believes he underestimated Western response to Ukraine invasion

United States President Joe Biden calls President Vladimir Putin a ‘Russian dictator’ during the State of the Union address to Congress on Tuesday, a week after Moscow invaded Ukraine.

“A Russian dictator, that invades a foreign country, has costs throughout the world,” Biden said. But “in the battle between democracy and autocracy, democracies are rising to the occasion and the world is clearly choosing the side of peace and security,” he said.

Biden claimed that Putin underestimated the powerful response that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine would provoke in Western nations, which imposed heavy sanctions on the Russian economy.

“Throughout our history we have learned this lesson: when dictators don’t pay the price for their aggression, they cause more chaos. They keep moving. And The costs and threats to the United States and the world continue to rise.”Biden said in his annual State of the Union address.

“He rejected attempts at diplomacy. He thought the West and NATO would not respond. And he thought he could divide us here at home. Putin was wrong. We were ready,” Biden stressed.

The annual State of the Union address, usually an opportunity to address America’s major domestic issues, put the spotlight on the massive transatlantic effort to roll back aggression Russian in Ukraine.
