The Bicameral Commission that works on the reform of Social Security Law 87-01 went on retreat today and tomorrow to the Hotel Rancho Guacamayo, in Bonao, where it will seek to advance the work related to the initiative.

In the ranch, property of the senator and transportation businessman, Antonio Marte, the congressmen will continue the discussions to try to reach a consensus of the piece.

Deputy Agustín Burgos, president of said commission, said that he trusted that they will be able to advance widely in the knowledge of the proposals and the articles to be changed in the aforementioned law.

“We are going to continue reviewing the Social Security Law, the articles and the proposals on the law to adapt it to the needs of the Dominican Republic and the demands of society,” he said.

He explained that “we are going to achieve the reform, we are going to achieve it, and we have held eight public hearings, two in the capital, in San Pedro, in Santiago, that is, we have been listening to the opinions of all sectors.”

While the deputy of the Social Christian Reformist Party (PRSC), Pedro Botello, who will participate in the retreat, said that they will push for the reform to include the return of 30% of the workers’ savings by the Fund Administrators of Pensions (AFP).

“We are going to participate in the work with the provision that the rights of workers are guaranteed, and above all that they are guaranteed the return of their own savings that are currently managed by the pension fund administrators,” he said.

He added that “we keep our position intact.”
