The nationalist senator Grace Bianchi accused the news director of TV Ciudad, Eduardo Preveof operate politically and assured that “took care of him” amid the coronavirus pandemicwhen taking the floor this Tuesday in the questioning of the Broad Front to the Ministers of the Interior, Luis Alberto Heber, and Foreign Relations, Francisco Bustillofor the delivery of a Uruguayan passport to the drug trafficker Sebastian Marset.
“What are there operators in the press? But please. If I look at Preve’s tweet, which I also took care of during the pandemic because it was one of those that did a lot of damage to the country. In the middle of the pandemic, when they were the deaths, which so many of you say is avoidable (…). The truth is, they are true operators”accused the senator in her statement.
The senator made reference to a tweet in which Preve published a timeline on the Marset casein which it details that in May 2021 the “Anti-Drug Brigade informs Paraguay about Marset’s drug activity” –fact to which a screenshot is attached in the tweet–, in September 2021 this brigade “ask the Foreign Ministry about the arrest of Marset in Dubai”, and two months later the “Vice Chancellor of Uy receives Marset’s lawyer”, Alexander Balby.

In addition, Bianchi criticized that TV Ciudad is not a fair mediumand what does it foresee he is not an “independent” journalist: “If I am responsible for TV Ciudad, They are not going to tell me that there is equanimity or that there is an independent press. The person whose votes are noticeable is not an independent journalist. That’s the limit.”
The Observer communicated by call with the white senator to see what she meant when she said she took care of Preve, but He preferred not to make a statement.
The current director of TV Ciudad was dismissed as director of Channel 10 in May 2021. “The journalist Eduardo Preve has finished his cycle on Channel 10; we appreciate his services over all these years and we recognize his professionalism and dedication. And we make it clear that this disassociation has no political component, nor moral and ethical aspects of any kind”the channel said in a statement.
The dismissal of the journalist was criticized in a statement by the Uruguayan Press Association (APU)who described the decision as “untimely and unjustified”and linked it, like a “strange coincidence or chance”to a meeting between Martín Villar, executive of Channel 10, with authorities of the Executive Power in the Executive Tower days before announcing the dismissal, on April 26.
Channel 10 discredited these accusations, and remarked in another statement that “a business decision, one of the many that are adopted in the life of a media outlet, has generated a series of unfounded rumours, which those who have launched them know more than anyone that they have no basis in fact”.
In his participation in the interpellation, Bianchi also criticized the media in general, and stated that in these “There is a brutal ignorance of the current regulations, of the most elementary things.”
“The other day I had to be in a media outlet (in which) I was told ‘The Prosecutor’s Office depends on the Judiciary’. A notorious journalist, not one of the newly received. How will it depend on the Judiciary? So what appears in the press, for the benefit of inventory”indicated the senator.
In addition, he avoided that prior to the questioning in these media “it was said that the ministers of State and even the President of the Republic, by legislators who are here in the room, very offensive things, some bordering on the Penal Code”. “If I accuse a president of favoring drug trafficking… And they were legislators. And before coming here to listen, if they are ashamed they have to resign”sentenced the nationalist, who did not mention which legislators she was referring to so as not to give “more grass to the beasts”.
