BHU debtors welcome the ruling party’s bill and ask that it be voted on in July

The spokesperson for the debtors of the Banco Hipotecario del Uruguay (BHU), Gimena Bas, affirmed that the debtors welcome the bill presented by the ruling party for this problem, and for this reason they hope that be approved in July and that the Broad Front accompany the vote.

According to statements by Bas a Subrayado, some “24,500 families are involved in the UR problem” and I add “2,500 families would already have their house settled. Then we have another band that is 30 to 40 years with zero interest,” she explained.

He added that they are working to correct an aspect of the project that is “the range of 30 years and below with 2.5 interest.”

Regarding the elimination of the BHU as an autonomous entity, the group of debtors will not issue an opinion on the matter. “The legislators assured us that a solution is not conditioned by this merger (with Banco República)”the spokeswoman commented.

The representative called on the Broad Front to support the ruling party’s bill. “After so many years of struggle, we believe that the opposition will have the sensitivity to support this project,” Bas concluded.

What is the project about?

The bill divides debtors into three large groups to which it grants different solutions. Will be included in the bill those debtors who have paid until at least December 31, 2022.

A first group will be made up of everyone who has more than 40 years since he took out the original credit. for that group the debt is liquidated if the person remained active paying during all those years.

There is a second group that is the one that is less than ten years from reaching 40 years from the original credit. The date taken to count the years, in all cases, is the day the credit was enabled.

to this second group the current quota will be maintained but the debt in UR will be readjusted which accelerates the amortization of the credit.

And a third group, made up of those who those who lack between 10 and 30 years to reach 40 for whom the quota is maintained but the debt in UR grows at 2.5%.
