
Former political prisoners Luis Isturiz and Óscar Castañeda, who were released this Sunday, were reunited with their children. Both had been detained for more than a year and, since then, they had no contact with their families.
Luis Isturiz was detained for 17 months on charges of conspiracy and terrorism. The lawyer and member of the organization Vente Venezuela, received a sentence of 20 years in prison in the same hearing where Edmundo González’s son-in-law, Rafael Tudares, was sentenced.

On the other hand, former political prisoner Óscar Castañeda also experienced an emotional reunion with his family.
Castañeda had been detained for more than a year for having participated in the visit of González and María Corina Machado to the Portuguesa state during the presidential campaign for the elections of July 28, 2024. At that time he told Machado that he had only returned to Venezuela 20 days after being a migrant for five years in Colombia.
The young man was received by his family; however, Initially he did not recognize his relatives and it was evident that he had difficulty walking.
The Venezuelan authorities charged Castañeda with the crimes of conspiracy and association to commit a crime. He was held in the El Helicoide detention center in Caracas.
