Between cunimis and llokallas

A political advisor to Manfred Reyes Villa has said, among other niceties, that Santa Cruz is “cunumi, mestiza and provincial.” This has unleashed unrest and also anger among Santa Cruz residents, which is an exaggeration. It would not deserve to reach the pages of newspapers, social networks and television. The “advisor” has said what he thinks or what he feels like saying, with the undoubted purpose of annoying us.

Frankly, I don’t bother, because the “advisor” has his true reasons, since in Santa Cruz there are many cunumis and mestizos. Furthermore, the “advisor” does not know that there is a type even lower than the cunumi, which is the poor “chori”, which now even we Santa Cruz do not remember. So acting offended and going out furious to refute it is an excess worthy of provincials.

A skilled and renowned journalist from Santa Cruz television interviewed the “advisor” and asked him, if there were cunumis in Santa Cruz, what similar class existed in Cochabamba, La Paz, and in the Andean areas in general. The “advisor” went around the bush, tried to confuse his interviewer, behaved spoiled, and did not want to acknowledge that, over there, miscegenation was visible in the “llokallas”, the imillas, the cholos and the cholas. There, saying cholo or chola has an effect that can take you to court, which does not happen in the east with cunumi or camba. The cholas are, since the rise of the MAS to power, “ladies in skirts”, which is a funny complex, because cholo or chola is not an insult, which can be “llokalla” or imilla. Cholo, like cunumi or camba, is the result of miscegenation between Spaniards and indigenous people. In short, for the peace of mind of the “advisor”, we can assure you that there are very few cunumis in Cochabamba, La Paz or Oruro, because the cunumis love their land and want to live here in the east. However, for the “advisor” to take note, Santa Cruz is full of “llokallas”, imillas, cholos and cholas, who arrive in truckloads daily to Santa Cruz, some clean and hard-working and others dirty and overwhelming, thieves of private property. , such as the so-called “intercultural”.
