The deputy Bettiana Diazrepresentative of the Broad Front (FA)has responded to the statements of Valeria Ripollcandidate for Vice President for the National Party (PN)who questioned the absence of disability and inclusion policies in the FA’s priorities.
Ripoll had expressed his disappointment and concern after pointing out that none of the 48 points presented by the left-wing coalition mentioned these issues at a recent press conference.
Response to Ripoll’s claims
During a press conference, Valeria Ripoll said: “In 48 proposals, the fact that none of them mention disability and inclusion left me very disappointed and worried.”
His comments focused on the apparent elimination of these issues in the FA’s electoral programme, generating a debate on the attention that disabilities receive within public policies and current government plans.
The FA’s electoral programme has been the subject of analysis, particularly in relation to its approach to disability and inclusion projects. In an attempt to clarify these questions, Bettiana Díaz referred to the FA’s programmatic documents, stating that disability policies are correctly integrated, although not as specific measures, but as a transversal approach that covers multiple thematic areas.
Bettiana Diaz’s response
Díaz, in an interview on Channel 10’s Arriba Gente program, said: “They are all there, not as specific measures, but as transversal measures.” This statement was accompanied by a tone of disbelief towards Ripoll’s analytical capacity. “Valeria Ripoll doesn’t read, right? Either she doesn’t know how to read or she’s lying,” said the deputy, highlighting that the FA program has references to disability, criticizing Ripoll’s position as unfounded.
In her defense, Díaz pointed out that the Frente Amplio program addresses the issue of disability in various thematic areas and has been publicly available since December. “Today, you can quickly filter the PDF, look for the word disability and it is mentioned more than 20 times throughout the document,” she said, indicating that the information is easily accessible for those who need to review the content of the program.
Analysis of the FA document
The analysis of the document entitled “Programmatic Bases 2025-2030” reveals that the word “disability” is mentioned a total of 25 times, indicating a commitment by the FA to this group. In addition, this term appears four times in another document entitled “33 programmatic priorities for a Government Plan 2025-2030”, issued in April of this year. Finally, in the most recent document “Priorities for Governing Uruguay”, presented in Colonia, the word is mentioned seven times.
