The former chief of staff appears before the SAC, where she offers her defenses regarding the constitutional complaint filed by the National Prosecutor against her after the coup d’état by Pedro Castillo.
Betsy Chavez, former holder of the Presidency of the Council of Ministersaffirmed that he was unaware of the message that the former president read Pedro Castillo Terrones on December 7, 2022, the date on which he tried to perpetrate a coup. During his presentation to the Subcommittee on Constitutional Accusations (SAC)the congresswoman also pointed out that the former president asked Chinese Chavez convene the then ministers of State before the third vacancy motion is debated.
The former chief of staff also explained that Terrones Castle was the person who requested that “will call the press of TV Peru for an official activity”. He says that after the arrival of the journalists, by that time some former ministers had already arrived before the call. Among them, he states that there were Emilio Bobbio (Defense) and Willy Orchard (Interior), as well as Hannibal Torres.

As reported, on January 27, the SAC evaluated the constitutional complaint presented by the National Prosecutor, Patricia Benavidesagainst the former president of the Council of Ministers Betsy Chavez for the alleged crime of rebellion. The congresswoman was also summoned to said session; however, she was absent due to health problems. Therefore, the audience was rescheduled for this Monday January 30th.
It is worth noting that the constitutional complaint against Chinese Chavez it also reaches ex-ministers Willy Huerta and Roberto Sanchezwho are also charged as alleged co-perpetrators of the crime of rebellion for the coup that Castillo Terrones tried to perpetrate.
