The way to disable her for ten years is now just one step. The sanction against Expremier Betssy Chávez for its participation in the coup d’etat of December 7, propitiated by Pedro Castillo, was in the hands of the Plenary of the Congress, which will decide today if ratifies the final report approved on Monday by the Permanent Commission or sends the recommendation to the file.
To approve the disqualification of the former Prime Minister, the favorable vote of the two thirds of members of the Congress is required, excluding the members of the Permanent Commission (28); That is, to reach 67 votes, Chavez will be incapacitated to, among other things, participate in the next elections.
But are the 67 accessions already secured? According to the votes recorded in the permanent (17 in favor and 4 against) it seems that the disqualification could come true in the plenary.
Only with the block votes of all the enabled congressmen of Popular Force, app, popular renewal, we are Peru, Avanza country, and honor and democracy – having those who make up the CP – the 54 accessions would be reached.
Popular Action has not taken a position, although Luis Aragon advanced to Peru21 that he will vote for disqualification and estimates that most of his bench (5 skilled to vote) do the same.
The Podemos bench is divided. José Arriola set his position in favor of the disqualification to this newspaper, but Guido Bellido has said that he will seek with his vote to save her. The non -grouped ones are key. Among the seven congressmen without bench, at least three of them – Maricarmen Alva, Carlos Anderson and Ed Malaga – have condemned Chavez’s actions in that December 2022.
