The swimmer Cuban Elisbet Gámez, the best in her sport on the island in recent years, will soon attend her first scholarship from the International Swimming Federation, according to official media.

The 25-year-old native of Baracoa, in the far east of Cuba, confirmed the good news to Cuban News Agency (ACN)which refers that the training base will be in Thailand.

According to the report, “Gámez announced that he will assume this new experience with optimism, after various opportunities that did not materialize in previous years.”

The office clarifies that the date for the scholarship has not yet been defined, but that it will begin “in the coming months”, according to the swimmer herself, a specialist in freestyle and in whose record the bronze medal stands out in the 800 meters at the Short Course World Cup held in Singapore in 2018.

At the moment, the woman from Baracoa is participating in the traditional Marcelo Salado Cup, the main Cuban swimming event, in which this Thursday she planned to compete in her best event, the 200-meter freestyle.

In that distance, Gámez is the national record holder, thanks to a time of 1:58.55 minutes, and she hopes to compete in the next World Championship in Budapest, Hungary. She will travel to that appointment accompanied by Andrea Becali, Rodolfo Falcón (son) and Julio Calero, other outstanding exponents of Cuban swimming today.
