Valle indicated that the purpose of the meeting with the former president of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) was to give her an “update” on the situation that Nicaragua’s political prisoners are going through.

“I thank the chancellor of Chile @UrrejolaRREE for their solidarity and willingness to receive me and listen to an update on the situation of the +219 political prisoners in #Nicaragua and my husband @maradiaga», detailed Valley.
He also emphasized that Urrejola told him that the Government of Chile is following up on the situation in Nicaragua “and sends a fraternal greeting to each Nicaraguan family.”
“I reiterated that she has a special place in our hearts and that we hope to continue counting on her support,” added Valle. In addition, she thanked the diplomat “for her commitment to the defense of human rights” in Nicaragua.

Urrejola, who in 2018 learned in situ about the situation of Nicaraguans in social protests, as well as the serious violation of human rights, has criticized the current actions of siege, repression and persecution by the Daniel Ortega regime.
To date, the list of political prisoners in Nicaragua has risen to 219. It has been almost two months since the captives in the Directorate of Judicial Assistance (DAJ) in Managua, the Ortega dictatorship has not allowed them to visit with their relatives.
