The engineer Bernard Castellanos denounced that in August 2020 the Superintendent of Electricity earned 596 thousand pesos per month and the other members of the SIE Council 446 thousand pesos per month and that in April 2022, after authorizing three increases in the electricity rate, the Superintendent increased his salary to 751 thousand pesos monthlyfor an increase of 26%.
He said that the members of the Council of the SIE they increased their salaries to 562 thousand pesos per monthfor an increase of 26%.
He questioned that these occur at a time when there have been increases in the electricity rate that have caused discontent in part of the population that led to the president Louis Abinader ask the CES to freeze it.

See electricity sector losses rise 59%
It is recalled that Castilians explained that according to the April 2022 Electricity Sector Performance Report, published by the Ministry of Energy and Mines, the total losses (energy charged to customers of distributors versus energy purchased from generators, in economic terms expressed in dollars) of distributors reached 35% in Edenorte, 31% in Edesur and 59% in Edeeste.
However, he stated that the total losses amounted to 59%.
Castellanos said that while this occurs with the losses, sector officials have ordered increases in the electricity rate that affect those who can least afford and have the least, which are 75% of the distributors’ customers, who consume less than 200 kilowatts hours per month.
He added that this has caused an accumulated increase in relation to October 2021 of between 41% and 46% for residential customers and between 50% and 56% to commercial clients.
