The situation that exists in the prisons of our country was the subject addressed by the lawyer and professor, Miguel Antonio Bernal, in an interview with Radio Panama, in addition to the responsibility of the authorities regarding the entry of firearms into prisons and the extinction domain law.
“They are not going to incriminate themselves, the police who manage the penitentiary centers and that is where the error begins, they are not going to come out and say that corporal so-and-so or sergeant so and so helped to put in a weapon because if you observe all the communications that emanate from the Ministry of Security deny the entire reality that we are living, they find three corpses and say no, they were drunks who died from alcohol intake, they find large-caliber AK-47, M19 weapons in jail and say that a drone, a weapon of this nature cannot be carried by a drone, they take us for fools,” said Bernal.
“Panama’s prison system is an absolute failure due to the simple fact that all the recommendations on citizen security that are being given by international expert organizations in the field are not taken into account, they are not applied and they want to continue managing the prisons of the country with criteria that are not only repressive, but with outdated criteria,” Bernal pointed out.
