Freddy Bernal said that Venezuelans “do not look to the past, they do not look to the darkness,” but rather they have their sights set on the future
The governor of the state of Táchira, Freddy Bernal, He said on Sunday, July 28, that citizens will show “joy” and “peace” during the election day, which coincides with the birthday of the late former president Hugo Chávez.
Bernal stressed that, in this sense, they will seek to honor Chávez with a victory at the polls, since the majority of Venezuelans are betting on hope and that they will do so through a peaceful and democratic vote “as has occurred year after year.”
He also said that Venezuelans “do not look to the past, they do not look to the darkness,” but rather they have their sights set on the future.
On the eve, Governor Bernal reported that a “criminal gang” that intended to “generate violence” and “sabotage the National Electric System (SEN)” was “dismantled.”
“At around 1:30 in the morning, they reported the movement of two vans with suspicious individuals in the Ureña municipality (Táchira), and the units immediately stopped a group of individuals. They were arrested in flagrante delicto at the Ureña electrical substation carrying material to attack the system,” said the official.
Bernal said that they were alerted by the popular power in the early hours of July 27 and upon arriving at the scene they managed to arrest the criminal gang in flagrante delicto.

The detainees are six men, two of them Colombian nationalities, “belonging to paramilitary groups,” Bernal said; the other four are Venezuelans.
In his speech, Bernal said that “There is information that links paramilitaries with a sector of the Venezuelan opposition (…) Apparently there is a sector that calls for madness, which is to return to the riots and plunge Táchira and the country into chaos,” he said.
Finally, he recalled that President Nicolás Maduro “had warned of the protection of the country’s strategic elements” and ended by calling on the international community and international observers and stressed that both the “Plan República” and the various organizations are deployed.
