During the 1st Táchira Coffee, Cocoa and Honey Festival 2022, which is taking place in the Venezuela Pavilion, in San Cristóbal, Bernal highlighted the need to start exporting products from the Andean entity to Colombia
“Both governments, Venezuela and Colombia, have agreed that in 3 months the necessary mechanisms will be adapted in the binational section of Tienditas to formally open it, because that is the ideal for the export and import of products,” as reported by the Governor of Táchira, Freddy Bernal, during the inauguration of the 1st Táchira Coffee, Cocoa and Honey Festival 2022.
He argued that, with the commercial opening of the border, businessmen and entrepreneurs no longer need to use the irregular steps, known as trails, since they must use the legal route, which is why the need arose to open the Tienditas bridge , which was built to modernize border mobility, especially with regard to commercial exchange.
According to Bernal’s statement, the opening of the Tienditas binational bridge would be for January 2023, as part of the agreements between the Government of Venezuela and the New Granada country.
In this order, the Governor also pointed out that, after the commercial opening, everyone must comply with the import and export parameters.
“Everything is progressively adapting, remember that we had seven years without exchanging any kind with the neighboring country, the authorities are going to agree on administrative procedures,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, the first regional authority maintained that businessmen should get used to paying import taxes. He clarified that this measure does not include those people who only pass little merchandise for their personal consumption.

Bernal’s statements go hand in hand with reinforcing Venezuela’s position in the trade balance with Colombia, since imports from the neighboring country are large, but export levels are minimal. In this sense, Venezuela must improve its national industry to increase its production, lower costs, be more efficient and present itself with products that can be attractive and compete in the Colombian market.
