The representative of Don Bosco, Willie Bermúdez, indicated that the new municipal tax increases were a goal that they have scored for all small, medium, and large businessmen and the entire population of the capital city that will be affected in some way.
“It was totally a goal that they scored talking about a moratorium and below the moratorium came an amount of taxes that were raised to all the residents of the capital and to all the businessmen, not only the big businessmen, but the micro to the big businessmen who have this modification, this is the lack of transparency with which it has been governed in this period with its back to the citizenry and totally disconnected with the needs of the citizenry” indicated Bermúdez
Regarding the amount of money that they must pay from now on with this tax increase, Bermúdez declared that “in some items, when making a comparison between one tax and the other, if we see that there are increases, in some cases of 2,000 per month up to 6 thousand dollars a month, and in other cases from $100 to $400 a month, it really is something that attracts attention, but when we see the minutes of August 2, 2022 we see the lack of transparency with which this council is governed municipal, both myself and my colleague Ricky Domínguez were the only ones who voted against it because there was something behind it that was not correct and that neither the population nor the media were exposed to the fact that on January 1 there was going to be a direct blow to the pocket of Panamanians as they did with this reform.
