Armando Benedetti will work from his country to advance the delivery and connection of the Colombian Embassy in Caracas. He added that he is not staying in office for immunity or money.
The outgoing ambassador of Colombia in Venezuela, Armando Benedetti, assured this Thursday, June 29, that he remains in office “by law” or “by salary” and said that he informed the Foreign Ministry of his country that he waives the payment of travel expenses.
Through their social networksBenedetti indicated that he will work from his country to advance the delivery and connection of the Colombian Embassy in Caracas to his successor, Milton Rengifo.
2. I will advance, from Colombian territory, the process of delivery and connection of the Embassy in Venezuela. I have informed the Chancellery of my resignation from the payment of any per diem concept. I want to be explicit: I do not keep the position because of the jurisdiction, nor because of the salary.

The Ministry of External relationships of Colombia issued a decree extending the work of Armando Benedetti as ambassador of Venezuela until July 19 of this year. The official then said that it was impossible for him to deliver the position on the agreed date; therefore, the date of acceptance of the resignation is extended to 30 days.
Benedetti resigned from the post on June 2. Petro announced that same day that Benedetti and his former chief of staff, Laura Sarabia, were leaving their positions after the controversy that involved both in a gruesome case of illegal wiretapping, polygraph tests and that even ended with the life of a police officer from the Presidency who committed suicide.

Similarly, the outgoing ambassador stressed that he has never doubted the impartiality of the Colombian Supreme Court “except for Judge Lombana who has shown her personal interest in my proceedings.”
Armando Benedetti is referring to magistrate Cristina Lombana Velásquez, who on June 7 requested the return of files against her that had passed to the Attorney General’s Office when the official left Congress and went to the Venezuelan embassy.
The cases that went to the Prosecutor’s Office when Benedetti left the Senate have to do with an alleged illicit enrichment of 2,919 million pesos that would not have arrived due to his activity as a congressman.
