A total of 110 cases of monkeypox have been registered in Panama, eleven of them in the last week of January 18-25.
According to the Department of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health (MINSA), the cases are distributed in the province of Los Santos, Veraguas, Chiriquí, West Panama, the Metropolitan Region, San Miguelito and North Panama.
According to the Minsa, the township of Bella Vista in the province of Panama is the area with the highest number of registered cases, with 16 to date; San Francisco is followed by 10 cases; Río Abajo 6 cases; Calidonia and Parque Lefevre with 5 cases, Pedregal, Juan Díaz, Bethania and Ancón with 4 cases.
Chilibre, Belisario Porras, and Tocumen with three (3) cases are also reported; then with two (2) cases registered to date, there are the corregimientos of Victoriano Lorenzo, Vista Alegre, Juan Demóstenes Arosemena, Arnulfo Arias Madrid, December 24, Mayor Díaz, Barrio Colón, Belisario Frías, El Chorrillo and Ernesto Córdoba.
The epidemiological report highlights that of the 110 accumulated cases, 28 are active and of which 22 patients are in home isolation and 6 are in health facilities; while 82 patients have already completed their isolation, without major setbacks.
Of these 110 cases, 108 men and 2 women have tested positive; additional. The distribution of the cases ranges in an age range between 19 to 59 years.
As for vaccination, the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI) reports that, until January 23, 2023, they have been applied to January 23, 2023, there are 70 doses registered with 60 first doses and 10 second doses.
The largest number of doses have been applied in the Metropolitan Health Region 46; North Panama with 6 applied doses; West Panama with 5 doses and with 1 dose applied San Miguelito, Coclé and Chiriquí.
