BELIEVE: we are in time for tax reform

CREES: estamos a tiempo para reforma fiscal

The Regional Center for Sustainable Economic Strategies (CREES) considers that the Government has time not to lose a “golden” opportunity to carry out a comprehensive tax transformation, phased in three years, of the tax system with the purpose of increasing growth, generating jobs, increasing the income of Dominicans and guaranteeing tax collections.

He understands that the decision to withdraw the Tax Reform or Modernization Bill was correct and public opinion and citizens are very attentive to the next steps that the authorities will take.

He argues that the reform introduced to the National Congress lacked elements that would allow the creation of a tax system in line with the needs of greater economic growth via investments and, consequently, had the potential to erode some of the tax bases.

Remember that the CREES proposals on comprehensive transformation to Tax Code and a project Fiscal Responsibility and Transparency Lawhave always been focused on lower rates, elimination of the most distorting taxes, facilitating formalization, reducing incentives for evasion, reducing the propensity towards informality and trade outside the law, since only laws of exemption when a tax system is implemented that allows it.
