The city of Belém has 53,000 guaranteed beds for the United Nations Conference on Climate Change 2025 (COP30), scheduled for November, said Tourism Minister Celso Sabino, on Tuesday (19), in an interview with radio stations during the program. Good morning, minister.
“We will have beds for everyone and will have fair prices for everyone who will come to this COP.”
“At COP do Azerbaijan, last year, on the most presence day, we had 24,000 people hosted in the city of Baku. For the city of Belém, the Brazilian government, with the partnership with the private initiative and all the actions taken, we already have more than 53,000 beds guaranteed for the COP period,” he adds.
According to Sabino, the Brazilian government is giving in more than 2,400 individual rooms so that the United Nations (UN) can house its 196 parts and member countries, with tariffs from US $ 100. The delegations were divided into two groups: smaller and largest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita.
“This first group [de menor PIB per capita] It will have daily between US $ 100 and $ 200. And the second group, from the largest per capita GDP countries, daily between $ 200 and $ 600. In addition, we made a deal with the Belém hotel chain, which is guaranteeing between 10% and 20% of its rooms for a daily of $ 300. ”

Abuse
The minister also spoke about allegations of abuse in the daily rates, recognizing the existence of this practice, but emphasizing that it is not a general rule. “With all this offer of beds that is emerging in the city, we are sure that some abuses that have arisen – and we recognize that there are some abuses in the collection of hosting prices, this is not a general rule, the general rule I mentioned – will be compelled, will be fought,” said Sabino.
“And who will take care of these abuses is the market itself. When I speak the market itself, I mean that, with the grid offers beds, those who are charging very expensive for their beds will have two alternatives: reducing prices or staying with their properties without location,” he adds.
Social movements
Asked about the availability of beds specifically for movements and social organizations with low budget resources for COP30, the minister confirmed that there are groups requesting, for example, $ 50 in the daily rate to participate in discussions during the event.
“The Brazilian government is trying to reconcile,” he said, mentioning that last week the folder met with the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Marina Silva, with the extraordinary secretary for COP30, Valter Correia da Silva, and the president of COP30, André Corrêa do Lago ambassador.
“We closed a group of international advisors who have already started working, identifying on time to these delegations, what are these entities they want to participate in COP and have not yet been able to find their dwellings or are having some difficulty with our platform so that we personally make a link between them and the dwellings we have available, to facilitate the meeting between them and the warranty of accommodation.”
“So that this cop is not only the largest cop that has ever happened and the most decisive COP that has ever happened, but also the most inclusive COP that has ever happened,” concluded the minister.
