SLP, Mexico.- The Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel expressed this Tuesday, after the decision of the United States Government to remove Cuba from the list of countries sponsoring terrorismthat remaining there “has had a high cost for the country and Cuban families,” once again disengaging from all responsibility for the crisis of the Cuban people.
In a statement transmitted on his social networks, the representative of the regime thanked “all those who contributed to the decision” of the Joe Biden administration and wrote: “Along with two other measures adopted, it has had a high cost for the country and Cuban families.”
I thank all those who contributed to the decision announced today by the United States to exclude Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, which it should never have been on and which, together with two other measures adopted, has had a high cost for the country and Cuban families

For his part, Bruno Rodríguez, Cuban Foreign Minister, agreed with his leader that the inclusion of Cuba on the list “has had a very severe impact on the Cuban population.”
In his message he argued that the measure was “arbitrarily and politically” motivated and attacked the economy, caused shortages and encouraged emigration to the US
In one official statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Cuban regime called the decision “limited,” but admitted that it represents a step “in the right direction.”
“Despite its limited nature, this is a decision in the right direction and in line with the sustained and firm demand of the government and people of Cuba,” the statement states.
The Government thanked states and international organizations, especially from Latin America and the Caribbean, for their requests to eliminate the designation as “State Sponsor of Terrorism.”
The measure, according to the regime, would put an end to some economic restrictions, described as “coercive measures” in the government note.
The Cuban government stressed, however, that the “blockade” and “persecution” against fuel supplies and international medical “cooperation” agreements persist.
President Joe Biden’s administration suspended This Tuesday Title III of the Cuban Freedom and Democratic Solidarity Law that came into force in 1996 and removed Cuba from the list that designates it as a State sponsor of terrorism, after a promise from the Havana regime to the Catholic Church to release political prisoners.
The US Government affirmed that the Cuban regime has not provided any support to international terrorism during the previous six months and has given guarantees that it will not support acts of international terrorism in the future, thereby justifying the departure of the regime of the list of state sponsors of terrorism.
Subsequently, the Cuban Government advertisement the release of 553 prisoners “punished for various crimes.”
Without mentioning whether they are political prisoners, an official note from the Cuban Foreign Ministry states that the decision was made “based on a careful analysis based on the different modalities contemplated by the law, and as part of the just and humanitarian nature.” of the penal and penitentiary systems of Cuba.”
The prisoners, they argue, will receive their respective benefits “gradually,” indicated the Cuban Government, without specifying when the release would occur or who would benefit.
