Owner of some swarms of bees that generated chaos in the city of Melo this Thursday appeared before the Prosecutor’s Office to testify about the incident.
The unusual event occurred on the afternoon of this Thursday in the center of the city of Melo (Cerro Largo) and left a balance of more than 30 people hospitalized as a result of a bee attack in the departmental capital.
The event that generated chaos in the Arachana community occurred in the vicinity of the Plaza Constitución, in the center of Melo.
According to what was said by the Police Headquarters of Cerro Largo, consigned by The Observer, the event occurred when a man brought two boxes of bees from the countryside to the city to extract the honey, despite the fact that it is prohibited in population centers. Passing through Del Pilar and Aparicio Saravia streets, at the end of a house located there, another man had two beehives.
The insects became agitated and escaped, joining two other spots where there were also bees.
Firefighters, Police and beekeepers arrived at the site who worked to scare away the insects safely and without hurting them.
More than 30 hospitalized
According to what was reported by the Police Commissioner, Neyker Bejeres, relieved by Telemundo, at least 34 people were hospitalized for this incident.
In total, 16 adults and eight minors were admitted to private health centers, while another 10 adults were hospitalized in public health.
The man who went to the section to testify was the owner of the two hives that were in the house.
