An attack by a swarm of wasps It is not a common phenomenon in Uruguay. Occurs once a year, or even once every two yearsbut its consequences they can be deadlyas explained to The Observer Amalia Labordespecialist in Clinical Toxicology and Occupational Health and Professor of Toxicology at the University of the Republic (Udelar), in April, when uA man died in Tacuarembó after being stung by a swarm of wasps.
When a wasp stings a person, a “very frequent” phenomenon, the concern lies in the “immune response” to the allergy that generates the venom of the insect, which can range from “a simple skin lesion” to “an anaphylactic reactionwhich compromises the breathing and the Cardiovascular system”.
This last reaction can lead to a “breakdown”but occurs in a low percentage of bite casesusually in people who “they recognize themselves as allergic” to this contact. This people “generally” they have “their own kit” to combat the reactionand in the case of minor complications “the effect lasts a few hours” and no treatment is recommended other than an analgesic for acute pain.
