BECAL: a guide for short-stay postdoctoral fellows in Spain is available

The Federation of Educators of Paraguay (FEP), led by Silvio Piris, expressed its rejection of the bill that seeks to penalize road closures in our country, presented by Colorado senator Enrique Riera.

Through a statement released this Wednesday, the FEP expressed its opposition to the bill that seeks to modify Art. 216 of the Penal Code to penalize closures on national and international routes.

According to the statement, with this proposal what would be achieved is “criminalize the struggles for the demands of the most vulnerable and neglected sectors,” as well as “gradually restore the dictatorship in Paraguay.”

Silvio Piris, the main leader of said teachers’ union, stated that if they do not come out to defend this now, they would no longer have the opportunity to demonstrate again and carry out marches on the routes. “Those from the government are going to have a tool to repress any type of demonstration.”

He announced that they will be waiting for what is decided in the Chamber of Senators, where this project presented by Senator Enrique Riera together with other parliamentarians is currently under study.

From the FEP they will be presenting a note to the president of Congress, Senator Óscar “Cachito” Salomón, to request that the project that seeks to penalize road closures be rejected ‘in limine’.
