The second phase of the NORCECA beach volleyball circuit will be held in the Cuban tourist resort of Varadero, north of the province of Matanzas, from May 6 to 8, with the participation of male and female pairs from eleven countries.
In accordance with island sports mediaRepresentatives from Canada, the United States, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Cuba, Jamaica and Saint Kitts and Nevis will participate in the contest.
The reports themselves add that all the 27 participating casts – 12 female and 15 male – must arrive in Cuba starting next Wednesday, May 4, and the technical meeting will be held the following day.
Cuba will compete with two duos of each gender. For the women, the Olympians Leila Martínez and Lidianny Echevarría, plus Dayani Zerquera and Amanda Armenteros will intervene.
In the men’s branch, the Island will be represented by the duet of Noslen Díaz and Jorge Luis Alayo, winners of the first phase of Norceca, held last weekend in Aguascalientes, Mexico. In addition, Yosvany Carrasco and Miguel Ángel Ayón will compete.
The tourist resort of Varadero, located about 140 kilometers east of Havana, hosted this circuit from 2011 to 2019 consecutively, but the health emergency imposed by COVID-19 in the last two years forced the suspension of These events.
However, the organizers of the event have full confidence in its success, as the once stellar volleyball player and current vice president of the International Federation, Mireya Luis, explained to the JIT website.
“We are very hopeful that everything will turn out well. There is a valuable experience of people with many years in this event and alternatives are always sought in the face of difficulties. The important thing is that all participants feel at home.”
