The Minister of Agricultural Development (Mida), Augusto Valderrama, stated this morning, in Telemetro Reporta, that action will be taken against the economic agents that are passing off premium rice as special rice, violating the quality requirement and regulation standards.
He explained that, through an investigation carried out by the Consumer Authority and Defense of Competition (Acodeco), it was determined that some economic agents are passing rice from first to special, without complying with the technical requirements and that is why actions will be taken.
Valderrama remarked that “75% of the rice has been first class, it cannot be that from one day to the next this changes, and in the last three years there has been no shortage of rice in the country.”
He affirmed that there is sufficient supply of rice in the country until September 1, following the parameters that are raised during the monthly meetings of the rice chain.
“So far there is no shortage of rice, since in the last inventory that was made, on April 29, there was enough rice to guarantee supplies until the first week of September,” he said.
Meanwhile, consumers continue to denounce the shortage of premium rice and other products in stores, whose prices are regulated.
