The Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCR) It put into circulation today the third S / 1 coin of the numismatic series “Constructores de la República – Bicentenario 1821-2021”, which bears the image of Toribio Rodríguez de Mendoza.
According to the entity, this currency is legal tender, so it can be used in any economic transaction and will circulate simultaneously with the current ones.

Through this collection, which consists of 9 coins, it is remembered and pays tribute to the characters who, between the 18th and 19th centuries, fought to achieve the freedom of Peru.
In this case, a tribute is paid to Rodríguez de Mendoza, who was born on April 15, 1750 in Chachapoyas and died in 1825 when he was the rector of the University of San Marcos.
He was ordained a priest and received his law degree, but he found his true calling in teaching, as a way to transform society. Between 1786 and 1817, as professor and rector at the Real Convictorio de San Carlos in Lima, he taught young people liberal principles and fostered political debate, stimulating the emancipatory spirit in his students.
He signed the Act of the Declaration of Independence in 1821 and joined the first Constituent Congress in 1822 to debate the first Constitution of Peru.
