After learning about the new project proposed by the withdrawal of funds from the ONPthe central manager of Economic Studies of the Central Reserve Bank (BCR), Adrián Armas, called for prudence with public spending.
“The BCR’s call for fiscal consolidation to continue and that implies prudent behavior in the management of public spending and also in tax measures that reduce tax pressure in the country,” he stated at a press conference.
The official reiterated the importance of maintaining “solid public finances”, which allows interest rates to be among the lowest in Latin America and also contributes to macroeconomic stability.
“Our country has already had solid public finances for decades. (…) It is important to maintain controlled public spending due to the importance of maintaining its macroeconomic stability, of having a low country risk. That has cost us a lot and is something that must remain,” he added.
It should be noted that the new project of the parliamentary left does not take into account that the ONP is a pay-as-you-go system, therefore, pensions are paid with contributions from members, that is, there are no individual accounts like in the AFP.
ECONOMY
On the other hand, the BCR representative reported that no impact has been observed on economic activity as a result of the pre-election campaign. Next week even the Central Reserve Bank will provide its projections for 2026.
The leading indicators of the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reveal that in October, domestic cement consumption grew 9.05%, while the production of the electricity subsector grew by 3.31%.
On the other hand, fishing production registered an advance of 25.7% in the tenth month, while mining and hydrocarbons production did so by 4.21%.
