The Central Bank (BC) defined this Monday (22) that the launch of Automatic Pix for the population will take place on June 16, 2025. The new date was announced on BCB Resolution No. 402published on the institution’s website.
The monetary authority predicts that Automatic Pix will facilitate recurring charges, the payment method in which the user pays periodically to have access to a product or service, and will be able to increase the efficiency of periodic charges.
Automatic Pix can be used as a payment method by companies of different sizes and sectors. These include bills from public utility companies such as electricity, water, and telephone; school and college tuition fees; gyms; condominiums; social clubs; health plans; streaming services; news portals; subscription clubs, and companies in the financial sector.
With the Automatic Pix method, the BC estimates that companies that will receive payment through this payment method will be able to reduce collection costs, as the operation is independent of bilateral agreements, as is currently the case with direct debit, and uses the infrastructure already created for Pix to operate.
Another advantage highlighted by the BC is the possible reduction in default, as payments will be scheduled in the customer’s account.
Companies
According to the resolution, the service provider will need to provide the details of the charge when requesting the Automatic Pix authorization. This authorization can be done by reading a QR Code, containing the information of the requested permission and the authorization will be granted.
In the event of insufficient funds on the date of a charge, new attempts may be made in the payer’s account. The company providing the product or service may make new attempts to initiate the Scheduled Pix transaction if the original attempt was not authorized by the payer of the service.
Payer
Automatic Pix will be free for the payer. The Central Bank estimates that Automatic Pix will be able to bring more convenience and serve as a recurring payment alternative for payers.
The payer must give prior and specific authorization, once only, for that recurring payment, through the Pix access device on a cell phone or computer, in the financial institution’s app.
When granting prior authorization, the user must allow periodic debits automatically, without the need for authentication for each transaction.
The customer can also read a QR Code containing the information on the requested permission and the information regarding the immediate payment of the first charge and grant the authorization at the same time as initiating the immediate payment.
After giving the initial single authorization, the amounts will be debited from the paying person’s account, with the frequency set out in the payment instruction.
Authorization for Automatic Pix may be canceled or, where permitted, unilaterally changed by the payer at any time.
