BBVA reports 6,000 accounts in negative balance; the bank rules out legal action

“Only 30,000 clients agreed to the support we gave so that they could pay their balances in three months. All of them were even sent via push notifications how to sign up, get involved and adhere to the plan,” said Jorge Terrazas, the bank’s communication manager.

The bank said it will not take legal action against customers with negative balances because they were not unpaid loans.

In the first days of May, the bank reported that more than 200,000 clients had negative balances in their accounts after an error on the part of the bank. The more than 164,000 remaining clients settled their debt with the bank thanks, in part, to the fact that they received their payroll on May 15.
