The bank later came out to clarify that it was human error that caused the problem and apologized to its customers. Now, two weeks later, and after making the charges correctly, the bank realized that some customers spent that money and there are accounts with negative balances.
The average negative balance that these accounts have amounts to 700 pesos, the bank reported, and to recover that money, BBVA will be contacting customers to offer them “free support.”
It is not clear what the customer support programs will consist of so that they return the money.
“They are going to be contacted to tell them what the steps to follow are,” the bank detailed. And it is that in this situation, there were people who did not make movements and others who took those resources.
The bank reported this morning that it wants to buy a coffee for customers who were affected by this error.
