The 470 Basic Health Units (UBS) in the city of São Paulo will be open today (30), until 17:00, for an active search for undiagnosed hypertensives and pressure measurement of those already diagnosed with the disease. The action refers to the National Day to Combat Arterial Hypertension, celebrated on Tuesday (26).
Throughout the day, people who go to the UBS will have their blood pressure, weight and height checked and their body mass index calculated. Doctors will also be consulted, and the person will be informed about the rational use of medicines and about the most appropriate nutrition to prevent high blood pressure.
High blood pressure or high blood pressure is a chronic disease characterized by high levels of blood pressure in the arteries. It happens when the values of the maximum and minimum pressures are equal or exceed 140/90 mmHg (or 14 by 9).
High blood pressure makes the heart have to exert a greater effort than normal to make sure blood is distributed correctly in the body.
Hypertension is one of the main risk factors for the occurrence of stroke, infarction, arterial aneurysm and kidney and heart failure. According to the Ministry of Health, 388 people die every day in Brazil from hypertension.
Covid-19
In addition to exams and care for hypertension, health posts will be open today in São Paulo for the application of flu and covid-19 immunizers. The UBSs will also screen for oral cancer risk.
To encourage the population to participate in the action on hypertension, the mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes, was this morning visiting UBS Jardim Aeroporto, in the south of the city. He pointed out that the campaign aims not only to find out who has hypertension, but to monitor people who are already diagnosed with the disease.
“Those who have hypertension and have stopped taking care of themselves because of covid-19 should resume [o cuidado] and do here [na UBS] analysis and exams with our professionals. And also those who don’t know, who can, through the exam, which is a blood pressure test, know if they have hypertension or not. Remembering that hypertension is a silent disease”.
Mechanic Wilson Monti, 67 years old, went to UBS Jardim Aeroporto to get the flu vaccine and the fourth dose against covid-19. He took the opportunity to measure hypertension and also screened for oral cancer. “I have high blood pressure, which I already control,” he said. “It’s always good to follow up for us to have a better standard of living and good health,” he added.
Through Search Health platformthe population of the city of São Paulo can find the addresses of the UBSs.
