Baseball postseason: Artemisa pitcher sanctioned for attacking a fan with a bat in Holguín

Yunieski García, pitcher for the Cazadores de Artemisa, will not be able to line up in the next quarterfinal duels, corresponding to the 64th National Baseball Serieswaiting for the national commission to rule on a sanction for attacking a fan outside the Calixto García Stadium, in Holguín.

In one official note distributed to the media, the governing body of the tournament confirmed that on January 21, at the end of the second match of the phase, “a situation” arose that involved fans from the northeastern territory and players from Artemis.

“As a result, the Artemiseño pitcher Yunieski García committed indiscipline, which he acknowledged before the authorities of Inder and the National Baseball Commission,” the statement states.

“For this reason, while the disciplinary measure to be applied is defined, it is not eligible to be aligned,” the text concludes, without providing more details.

Confirmations and denials

The note issued by the national commission destroys the initial version offered by the player about the altercation, as it denied his participation in the events.

What happened was reported by Holguín journalist Abel Adrián Castro Sablón, who asked the national commission, through a Facebook post, for a severe sanction for García, taking into account that he had adopted antisocial behavior by attacking a fan with a bat.

The communicator claimed to have witnessed, along with other people, what happened outside the stadium.

García reacted in the same way to this publication, and at that time called this statement false, in his opinion, “made by an amateur without even finding out if it is true or a lie.”

Another drop for the cup

Everything indicates that this is a new act of violence that occurred in the current baseball campaign, marked by serious events of this type, such as the serious attack on a referee by Eriel Sánchez, who after being sanctioned resigned as director of the Sancti Spíritus team.

Violent aggression marks the news of the National Baseball Series

Another similar case was carried out by Guantanamo pitcher Álvaro Savón, also against an impartial player, which cost him a suspension for 20 games.

Another event that became relevant was the verbal abuse reported by the Santiago journalist Brita García, attributed to the referee Luis Felipe Casañas, who was punished for that attitude.
