Minister Luís Roberto Barroso, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), fell ill this Wednesday (15) and was admitted to Hospital Sírio Libanês, in Brasília.
According to the Court’s press office, the minister was taken to the hospital’s emergency room and underwent a series of tests to verify the suspicion of a virus. As a precaution, Barroso will spend the night in the hospital.
Earlier, the minister’s retirement was published in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU).
With the publication of the document, Barroso will leave his position next Saturday (18). It will be up to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to appoint a new minister to the Court. There is no deadline for nomination.
Last week, Barroso announced his early retirement of the Supreme Court. He is 67 years old and could remain on the Court until 2033.
