FC Barcelona achieved its seventh victory on Wednesday consecutive in as many league matches, recovering a four-point cushion as leader of the Spanish championship after winning 1-0 against Getafe.
Poland’s Robert Lewandowski scored the only goal of the match in the first half (19) despite the fact that his teammates Raphinha and Lamine Yamal tried to score at the ‘azulona’ goal on several occasions.
With a full victory, the Catalan club has 21 points and is the clear leader, with a four-point advantage over Real Madrid (2nd, 17 points). For its part, Getafe remains mired in relegation places (19th, 4 points) and is still without a win so far this season.
In Barça’s first game since the serious injury to German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegenthe youth player Iñaki Peña, 25 years olddefended the goal as a starter and had a leading role with a great save in the early stages to a header by Carles Pérez (8).
His counterpart at Getafe was not so lucky: David Soria jumped to try and catch a cross from Jules Koundé, but he was unable to get hold of the ball, which slipped into the heart of the area. That’s when ‘Lewy’ appeared to score his seventh goal of the season and remain the leading scorer in Spain.
Not content with the meager result, the men coached by German Hansi Flick sought the second goal, with a great shot from Yamal into the top corner saved thanks to a great stretch by Soria (58), or a header that went wide by Raphinha in the final stretch (82).
In the other match played on Wednesday, Girona (12th, 8 points) and Rayo Vallecano (10th, 9 points) tied The remaining matches of the seventh round will be played on Thursday, with a notable duel (15:00 HB) between Celta de Vigo (9th, 9 points) and Atlético de Madrid (4th, 12 points).
The demanding schedule gives no respite, and Barça will visit Osasuna (7th) on Saturday, on the eighth day of the League, while Getafe will host Deportivo Alavés (8th).
