Banco Santander woke up this Wednesday with a large number of complaints from customers who saw how their accounts registered unusual movements, with alerts and speculation of a potential hack. The private bank informed the press that it was an internal computer failure in the processing of the data, and not the intrusion of computer hackers.
According to the financial entity, duplicate operations were found, which generated unusual movements in user accounts linked to debit cards. It was also reported that the bank’s technical team would be working all day today to solve the error. In the meantime, it is recommended not to close an account or report cards.
The bank blames unemployment against the pension reform
The bank in question issued an official statement in which its version of events was released. It was, according to what was reported, an “internal error”, and he blamed the strike on Tuesday against the pension reform, which stopped a large part of the country.
It also reads in the statement that “movements made by customers doubled” on April 25. “The bank is already reprocessing the information to solve it and shortly the movements in the affected accounts will be regularized,” he concluded.
