The president of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) on Organized Crime, senator Fabiano Contarato (PT-ES), announced this Tuesday (3), in Brasília, that he will request the summons of the governor of the Federal District (DF), Ibaneis Rocha (photo). If approved by the board, Ibaneis will be obliged to attend.
Invited to attend today’s CPI session, Ibaneis sent a letter informing that he would send the Secretary of Security, Sandro Avelar, to represent the DF government. However, the person who attended was the secretariat’s number 2, executive secretary Alexandre Patury.
“For this reason, this Tuesday’s session (3) of the CPI is cancelled. The president of the CPI will present a request to summon Governor Ibaneis Rocha to the commission”, informed Senator Fabiano Contarato’s office.
The CPI rapporteur, senator Alessandro Vieira (MDB-SE), defended the invitation made to Ibaneis, arguing that, although the DF has a “controlled” homicide rate, the capital is the seat of political and economic power.
“Its managers will be able to detail the strategies to combat money laundering, decapitalization of factions and infiltration of organized crime in sectors of the economy and the State”, said Vieira in the request that asked for Ibaneis to be heard.
THE Brazil Agency sought advice from the Government of the Federal District (GDF) to comment on the topic, but did not receive a response until the publication of this report.

Master Bank
The DF governor is linked to the Banco Master scandal and faces requests in the Legislative Chamber to open a CPI and impeachment. Banco de Brasília (BRB), the public bank in the Federal District, is being investigated for trying to buy Banco Masterwhich allegedly issued false credits to raise funds in the financial market.
According to investigations, fraud could reach R$17 billion. Faced with signs of fraud, Banco Master was liquidated by the Central Bank.
Ibaneis denies any wrongdoing and says he is calm about the investigation involving BRB.
Other governors
The Organized Crime CPI chose this week to hear from governors about the activities of organized crime and factions in their states. On Wednesday (4), the testimony of the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Cláudio Castro, is scheduled. However, the session was also cancelled. The governor of Rio informed the CPI that he is on an official agenda in Europe and will not be able to attend.
