Balance of the first year of the Paid Parking Zones in Bogotá

The Paid Parking Zones (ZPP)a strategy led by the Bogotá Mayor’s Office, headed by the Ministry of Mobility, are celebrating their first year of operation.

(This is the new Pago Parking Zone in Bogotá).

“With the entry into operation of the Paid Parking Zones, we have recovered 22 kilometers of public space, benefiting more than 673 thousand users and achieving a 68% reduction in parking search times”, points out Ana María Zambrano Duque, manager of the Bogotá Transport Terminal and who is in charge of the ZPP.

In addition, according to the most recent statistical analysis provided by the Statistical, Criminal, Misdemeanor and Operational Information System of the National Police (SIEDCO) and by the District Secretariat for Security, Coexistence and Justice (SDSCJ)reports a 17% reduction in the theft rate in the areas where the ZPPs operate.

In the town of Chapinero, for example, car theft decreased by 32%, while in the town of Usaquén motorcycle theft fell by 47%. The foregoing is a product of the expansion of security fronts in the localities where the project operates.

Since its entry into operation, the Paid Parking Areas They have put 2,828 parking spaces at the service of citizens and have also generated 300 formal jobs, which have benefited former informal caregivers who did not have social security.

“To date, close to 4 billion pesos have been collected, which is very positive if we take into account that previously the city did not receive a single peso for street parking,” points out Ana María Zambrano Duque.

Operation begins in Barrios Unidos, Los Mártires and Puente Aranda

With the entry into operation of 296 spaces in the towns of Barrios Unidos, Los Mártires and Puente Aranda, the Paid Parking Zones in the city continue to expand. These new parking spaces correspond to implementation areas 5, 9 and 10.

“The Paid Parking Zones, in addition to adding to the ordering of public space, also promote civic culture and allow modernizing the parking policy in the city to reduce infractions by citizens,” adds Zambrano.

(Zona de Parqueo Pago in Bogotá raised $800 million).

As of December of this year, Bogotá will have more than 5,000 spaces in the Paid Parking Zones. By 2023, the project will expand 17 implementation areas. In this way, the ZPP will continue to contribute to the organization of public space, making it possible to improve mobility and strengthening security and coexistence.
