Balance of Onemi for forest fires: nine active incidents and 52 controlled

The National Emergency Office of the Ministry of the Interior (Onemi) reported this Saturday afternoon that there are nine active forest fires and 52 controlled ones. In turn, they indicated that 24 claims were extinguished.

At a dam point, the national director(s) of Onemi, Mauricio Tapiaalso reported that there are six red alerts nationwide: in the communes of Quilpué, Catemu and Santo Domingo in the Valparaíso region, Curacaví and Lampa in the Metropolitan Region, and Mostazal in the O’Higgins Region.

“In the Valparaíso Region, the fires with the greatest impact correspond to the sectors of Cerro Viejo, Los Coligues, Quebrada Seca, Pangui Rosa and Los Molinos,” he continued.

“In the Metropolitan Region, the Fundo Carén incident remains active, with 6,900 hectares (consumed), and in O’Higgins, there is the La Candelaria fire,” Tapia added.

The national director (s) of Onemi said that tomorrow temperatures could reach 32°C. “Although it is not an extreme temperature parameter, this condition forces us to reinforce preventive behaviors against forest fires, not lighting bonfires or manipulating heat sources in areas close to vegetation,” he said.

In turn, he recalled that the Metropolitan Region Health Seremi canceled the health risk alert for smoke from forest fires in the morning, given “the improvement in air quality indices in all the monitoring stations of the Ministry of Environment”.
