The president of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of the Republic of Panama (Fedecamaras), Alicia Jiménez, calculated this Tuesday afternoon that the balance of the losses in the country’s production chain, as a result of the protests and road closures, It’s almost $500 million.

At a press conference, Jiménez indicated that the union is aware that citizens have the right to protest and demand a containment of prices and public spending; however, he recalled that these demonstrations are already two weeks old. “The balance that we have of losses, now national added value, is almost $500 million, which was what I quantified in 10 days,” he pointed out.

The union leader recalled that more than 100,000 medical appointments have been missed and that the lack of supplies for hospitals in all provinces is worrying. At the same time, she specified that not so many medical consultations were lost during the Covid-19 pandemic period.
