After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, flour prices skyrocket in Argentina and Peru. In Bolivia, the bakers hope that there will be no shortage and that Emapa will be able to supply the product.
The executive secretary of the Departmental Federation of Bakers of La Paz, Martín Vargas, reported that there is an agreement with the Government to supply flour to the sector. “Right now, if we use only Argentine flour, the price of bread would have to increase. The price has skyrocketed in Argentina, but as a sector we are calm because of the agreement we have with the government. If the flour affects a lot, an increase in the quota would have to be requested so that the bread is not lacking, “said the leader.
He added that the bakers use flour from Emapa and mix something with the product that arrives from Argentina so that the bread can have a better presentation. “If Argentine flour skyrockets in price, we are going to have to produce only with flour from Emapa,” he said.
He explained that at the border the price of a quintal of flour is to be sold at 190 to 195 bolivianos and in the city it would cost 205 to 210 bolivianos. Before it was between 170 and 175 bolivianos in the markets.
According to the portal of the newspaper El Cronista of Argentina, in that country in five days the price of flour increased by 70% due to the war between Russia and Ukraine.
In Peru, the Infobae portal reported that there is concern among bakeries because the price of wheat flour increased by 12 soles.
According to testimonials from baker the bag of this product went from 122 to 136 soles (251 bolivianos, approximately).
