Santiago. The Union of Community Organizations of the Municipality of Baitoa denounced that six months after giving the palazo to start the aqueduct, the work is paralyzed.
In this sense, he expressed concern about the lack of commitment of the general director of the National Institute of Drinking Water and Sewerage (Inapa), Wellington Arnaud, by not having the construction of the work in the promised time. During a press conference, he stated that both during the campaign and as president of the State, Luis Abinader assumed the commitment to build this aqueduct, which would meet a need whose solution has been demanded for more than 50 years.
It was recalled that at the beginning of 2022 the president announced the joint construction of the Sabana Iglesia and Baitoa aqueducts, allocating an amount of 400 million pesos for each of them, work under the rectory of Inapa, the entity that started the phase corresponding to the municipality of Sabana Iglesia, but not to the work of Baitoa.
Alfredo Matías, who served as spokesman, recalled that in a meeting with the social and political leadership of the community held in March 2022, the director of Inapa informed that the stage corresponding to the municipality of Baitoa would be tendered in June of that year, something that didn’t happen.
He added that in September of that same year Wellington Arnaud, Governor Rosa Santos, Senator Eduardo Estrella and other officials gave the first blow to start the work. However, “the truth is that six months after that first shovel, the work for 400 million pesos has not been tendered or contracted.”
In this regard, they request the general director of Inapa to start the bidding process for stage B of the Sabana Iglesia Baitoa multiple aqueduct construction project and warn that they will remain vigilant and if necessary they will resume the protests, which will only cease when all the homes have water.
