Bad Bunny sweeps the 2022 Billboard Awards

With nine wins including Artist of the Year, Tour of the Year and Songwriter of the Year, Bad Bunny was the grand champion of the 2022 Billboard Latin Music Awards. It’s no wonder the Puerto Rican star, who has been breaking attendance records at his concerts and on the charts, he will also take home Top Latin Album of the Year and Latin Rhythm Album of the Year honors for A summer without you the longest-running album at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart so far this year; as well as “Hot Latin Songs” Artist of the Year, Male, “Top Latin Albums” Artist of the Year, Male; and Tropical Song of the Year for “Volví” with Aventura.

Farruko followed Bad Bunny in number of wins with his smash hit “Pepas,” which won the coveted “Hot Latin Song” Song of the Year award, as well as Song of the Year, Sales and Song of the Year, Streaming. Karol G was the main female awardee, taking the honors “Hot Latin Songs” Artist of the Year, Female, and “Top Latin Albums” Artist of the Year, Female, while “Mamiii”, her collaboration with Becky G, obtained “Hot Latin Song ”, Vocal Collaboration of the Year.

Rauw Alejandro and regional Mexican stars Grupo Firme and Eslabón Armado each scooped two awards, as did 18-year-old Mexican newcomer Iván Cornejo, who won the coveted Artist of the Year, Debut award. The Producer of the Year award once again went to Tainy.

Although Bad Bunny has dominated the charts, the list of Billboard Awards winners represents a wide range of emerging and veteran Latin artists and genres, including Rosalía, Wisin y Yandel, Romeo Santos and Christian Nodal.

The variety was also present in the special prizes. Pop superstar Chayanne was recognized with the Billboard Icon Award, while Nicky Jam received the Billboard Hall of Fame Award for his success as a pioneer of reggaeton as well as his work in film and media. The Spirit of Hope award for philanthropic efforts went to Christina Aguilera, while Spanish idol Raphael received the Billboard Lifetime Achievement Award. José Feliciano was awarded the Billboard Legend Award.

In terms of record labels and publishers, Sony Music Latin led with nine awards, including Record Label of the Year, Latin Airplay, while Sony Music Publishing won Publishing Corporation of the Year. Rimas, Bad Bunny’s record label, took home six awards, including “Top Latin Albums” Record House of the Year, while its RSM Publishing (Ascap) division won Publisher of the Year.

The finalists and winners were celebrated at the Billboard Latin Music Awards that were broadcast live on the Telemundo network from the Watsco Center in Miami, Florida. The Billboard Latin Music Awards is the only award show that honors the most popular albums, songs and performers in Latin music according to Billboard’s renowned weekly charts. Finalists and eventual winners reflect the performance of new recordings on Billboard’s album and song charts over a one-year period, from the August 14, 2021 charts to the August 6, 2022 charts this issue. The determinations are based on key fan interactions with music, including album and digital song sales, streaming, radio performance and touring, tracked by Billboard and its data partner, Luminate.
