Bad Bunny starts the year with controversy after throwing a fan’s cell phone into the sea

Santo Domingo, Jan 3 (EFE).- The Puerto Rican Bad Bunny, who last year consolidated himself as the main Latino artist, begins 2023 amid controversy after throwing a follower’s cell phone into the sea in the Dominican Republic.

As can be seen in a video posted on numerous social networks, during a walk through the exclusive Casa de Campo complex, in La Romana, in the eastern Dominican Republic, a fan tries to take a selfie with the rag-picker, who, annoyed, snatches the phone and throws it into the water to the astonishment of the young woman and other admirers.

“You mocked, there you mocked,” says one of those present to the artist, who continues walking with several friends, while other followers reproach the singer of the world hit “Tití me pregunta” for the action.

A voice, which seems to be that of the artist, asks to “respect the space”, to which a fan responds: “We love you however it is”.

After the controversy, Bad Bunny wrote on his Twitter account: “The person who approaches me to say hello, to tell me something or just to meet me, will always receive my attention and respect.”

But, he warned, “those who come to put a fucking phone in my face I will consider it for what it is, a lack of respect and I will treat it the same way.”

The singer’s attitude has been strongly criticized in the Dominican Republic and some have even advised the young woman, whose name has not been publicly revealed, to file actions against the musician for assault.

Bad Bunny was in 2022 the most listened to artist globally on Spotify for the third consecutive year and the most money raised by concerts in a year, with 373 million dollars, according to Billboard Boxscore.

The Puerto Rican announced last month in an interview with Billboard magazine that he will take a break and not perform on stage in 2023 in order to prioritize his physical and mental health, enjoy what he has achieved and be able to work on music without pressure. EFE
