Bad Bunny, Music and Change

Bad Bunny, Music and Change

On September 14, Bad Bunny ended his residence entitled “I don’t want to leave here”, in which he held 30 concerts at the Puerto Rico Coliseum, and he has not stopped speaking since he began on July 11.

But this week the Puerto Rican has continued to give headlines. Some data of the impact that the residence in Puerto Rico has left have been known, while last Monday, he announced that this Saturday, September 20, he will hold an additional concert to the residence, under the subtitle of “one more” and with special characteristics: it will be only for residents of Puerto Rico and will be broadcast for the world by Amazon Music.

And as if that were not enough, Bad Bunny heads the list of the Nominations for the Latin Grammy Awards, which were released on Wednesday, and prepares to start on November 21 its world tour “I had to throw more photos”, which already has more than 2 million tickets sold.

When we say Bad Bunny, there is not only talk of boom musical. With this album and this residence, the artist has become a global voice of his people, his nation, his traditions, his problems and, of course, his culture.

Benito is creating and turning his art into a social and political call, an opportunity for his island. The concert only for its people on September 20 coincides with the eighth anniversary of the passage through Puerto Rico del Hurricán María, which left many of the evils present until today, including prolonged blackouts.

“I have really always dreamed that in Puerto Rico people realize how great, the intelligent, talented, how capable we are. And I just want a worthy country, with a decent government, without corruption, where the light does not leave every day; where we have the essential services, where education is primordial and do not close schools; where the boys and girls who are born today. I want to Puerto Rico, ”Benito told Telemundo 47.

More than 600 thousand people attended the residence. All this deployment has become “an unprecedented economic phenomenon”, According to the local press. The thousands of people who have traveled to the island to attend concerts have brought benefits to tourism, gastronomy, commerce, transport and other sectors. HE esteem that the activity promoted the gross domestic product between 5 and 7 % in this period.

But the cultural and artistic level of what Benito has done in these concerts and what it represents for the Puerto Rican and Latin culture in general is of equal importance than its economic impact.

Puerto Rican troubadour Julio César Sanabria commented to Oncuba That “this residence has seen the world before the world that, although we are a geographically small country, we have a heart that does not fit in our chest. We have many young people, both in the salsa, in the urban, in the full, in La Trova, that when they see this type of world scenario, they take ideas to continue working for our Puerto Rican music.

For his part, the Cuban music producer, Alden González Díaz commented from my vision as a defender of the Caribbean traditions, which seemed “very commendable what he is doing and what has been happening with his performances that are full of references to the Caribbean tradition”.

“That rescue, in my view it is very important. From the industrial point of view, there are many things that have changed thanks to him. There are many people looking at Latin music, thanks to him. And from the commercial point of view, of marketing, both he and his work team are giving lessons. This residence in the Coliseum of Puerto Rico is one of the most relevant commercial actions in recent history, not only of Latin music.

Bad Bunny did not make concerts, but built an entire experience for his audience, an opportunity for his people and may have come to change rules of the game, to remind us that yes, that music and art can be generators of consciences, changes, growth. And that all this is also possible from genres in a trend, from the traditional, of enjoyment and exploiting the industry.

Bad Bunny has become an artistic voice that many countries would like to have in their homeland.
