During the first meeting of the Bicameral Commission of Investigation (CBI) on money laundering, deputies and senators met with Carlos Arregui, head of the National Secretariat for the Prevention of Money Laundering (Seprelad) and with José Cantero, president of the Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP).
Basilio “Bachi” Núñez, national deputy for the ANR (chartist) and one of the members of said CBI, affirmed that he has a clear conscience. This, in the face of the leaked Seprelad report at the end of May, which reveals that the legislator received US$ 1 million between September 2020 and May 2021 from Horacio Cartes’ banks.
“I ask that you report me if you are responsible. I will ask for my immunity. See my affidavits, I’m a neurosurgeon, a doctor, I work in Congress. I was already a politician before I met Cartes, now after meeting him I am much better. I never received any money from Cartes”, he stated.
He pointed out that Arregui is melting the institutionality of Seprelad.
“The six members of the CBI are candidates. They are all anti Honor Colorado. It is a commission more political than investigative », she sentenced.
